The third Greater Manchester Archaeology Festival takes place in June 2019 from the 20th to the 23rd. As before, there will be a variety of free events hosted by Greater Manchester Archaeology Federation members across the city region, from talks and walks to conferences and excavations.
Working in partnership with the University of Salford’s Centre for Applied Archaeology, Connected Earth and Cambridge Wireless, and supported by the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals, we are pleased to offer the following two free events as part of this year’s Festival.
Friday 21st June 2019, 11:00 to 15:00
Come and join Mike Nevell, Head of Archaeology and Nigel Linge, Professor of Telecommunications, from the University of Salford, on a guided walk through Manchester’s city centre examining the many places of interest which reflect Manchester’s rich transport and telecommunications heritage.
Saturday 22nd June 2019, 10:00 to 16:00
Whether you are a technical specialist, an enthusiast, a former or current employee of the telecommunications industry, a museum or heritage professional, an academic or someone who has a general interest in history and industrial archaeology then we hope you will find something to enjoy in this conference which is exploring the history of telecommunications, its impact on society and the development of industrial cities such as Manchester.
